A wonderful treen vase or pot of beautiful sculptural shape and the most appealing rich patina, expertly turned and carved from solid wood and ornamented with naive scratch ring decoration to the exterior and interior. The bulbous body rises to a chamfered collar which then splays out to form a wide neck. Of unknown origin although probably Indian due to the similarity of other pieces such as grain measures from that region. Of unknown date but due to the sublime patina, probably late 19th - early 20th century. A superb decor piece to delight the most discerning collector of ethnic treen.
There is an 8cm scar to the base on one side (see last photo) which is in no way unsightly and adds to the character of this lovely piece.
