An archetypal example of a Regency period jewel or keepsake box of simple, restrained elegance in red leather. The subtly canted lid is adorned with four simple brass floral paterae and is centred by a flower basket ring handle. The lock retains its original eschutcheon of oval form with anthemion motifs and the hinged lid opens to reveal the original turquoise lining paper. The underside of the piece shows the original Italian hand-marbled paper. The box shows minor signs of wear to the base and edges commensurate with age and use but otherwise remains in remarkable condition for a charming piece of English history, now over 200 years old. Circa 1810.
