A truly exceptional, bespoke-made pair of Georgian, Irish wine bottle coasters, well turned in decorative ribbed form from the finest quality mahogany, now of lovely colour with a rich patina. The coasters are fitted with a collar and base of heavy gauge brass and retain, to their underside, the original red velvet lining. Large enough to take a Magnum of Champagne, these coasters are truly of the highest order of manufacture and remain in extraordinarily pristine condition befitting their original commission from a grand Irish stately home. Circa 1800-20.
* Interestingly, the form of the coasters mirrors the Irish peat and plate buckets of the same period and were almost certainly designed to complement other similar furnishing accessories in the dining room. (see photo courtesy of Mallets).
